What's the best fly/mosquito control for my horse?

My poor gray horse is a fly and mosquito magnet. The stables feed him fly control in pellet form and I have an herbal mix to spray on him, but i was wondering if there's anything else that would work better? What's the best fly/mosquito control for my horse?
Pyranha is the BEST horse fly spray on the market.

Apple Cider Vinegar is also great to add to the horses water. I have a 100 gallon stock tank, and I dump in a gallon of ACV every other week.

Nothing grows in the tank and the horses actually drink more water because they love the taste.

A fly mask with ears and a fly sheet will also help.

We use Fly Predators and have next to no flies...but in a stable environment it is more challenging, because you have to convince everyone to pitch in and purchase the little bugs. What's the best fly/mosquito control for my horse?
Try mixing garlic granules into his feed, a lot of my friends do this - I think it works. Citronella oil also makes good fly repellant, don't use the oil straight you need to dilute it. Try putting vaseline around the eyes, mouth, genitals as the flies don't like this at all and it saves the poor horse getting bitten there.

Hope this helps!
Garlic in the feed is definitely a good move.

Also try to help out by bringing him in from the field when flies, etc are at their worst - dawn, midday and dusk.
I looked for a while and this is what i found for you, hope it is useful, I use repel x about once a week Endure Sweat-Resistant Fly Spray For Horses 32oz w/Sprayer #10748 An effective fly spray that won't sweat off. I can understand why you wouldn't want to use the chemical products on a regular basis, as they build up in the bloodstream. The most effective product that I have found is Diatomaceous Earth. It is the best repellent for any type of insect, and it is completely safe and non-toxic. I use it to worm my cats and kittens by sprinkling it on their food, (it is very high in minerals) so it is good for them as well. I also use it to keep ants from coming in the cattery after their dropped food particles. I have also used it to kill ear mites on new breeders that I have purchased and brought in, by dipping a q-tip in it and cleaning their ears out. It will kill fleas and mites by cutting into the body as they move through the powder. It is actually a silky fine white powder, very soft to the touch, but extremely drying, with very sharp edges to the microscopic powder and is made from ground up sea fossils. Although it is deadly to insects, it will not harm people or animals, but you should take care not to breathe it, (or your animals), as it can cause irritation in the lungs. Organic farmers use it to repel and kill insects in their gardens. I use the food grade for my cats, but if you only want to apply it topically to the coat to repel flies, you could just use the regular type. You can sprinkle it on them, and around their stall, in the hay, etc. to keep flies away. It can be found on the net, at nurseries, feed supplies stores, etc. Good Luck!
Bronco fly spray is inexpensive and very safe to use, i used it on all my animals-goats, equines, calve, dog etc and never had a problem. (goats are very sensitive to chemicals, almost as bad as cats!) You can put vasaline down in the horses ears to prevent the flys from making sores in his ears.. just put a dab on a finger and smear it on the skin inside his ears (if you clip the inside of his ears this is really good as it helps prevent scabs and stuff from razor burns also!) I have used most brands of fly sprays over the years but prefer bronco... it will sweat off however, but I didnt want to keep chemicals on my horses 24/7 as I always worried about possible problems on down the road due to them... so made sure mine had a place to get out of the sun where the flies did not bother them ( used fans and they could go in and out of thier stalls into the pasture at will...on bad days for flys, they would all be found in thier stalls in front of the fans lol. And on very hot days the fans keep them a bit cooler also)
My old Arabian stallion had such thin skin the flies would make him bloody. I used one of those mesh face masks and Off! spray on him and wrapped his legs to the knee. Worked great. A friend fed his Arabs 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in his horses grain twice a day (start out with a small amount and work up. It has to be apple cider, not white) Supposedly it makes them taste bad. Good luck
try a flee and tick spray?
Here is a list of the best fly sprys for horses and some infro abbout each one (click on link) :)
If it's really bad, you may need to get him a fly mask and sheet. if you haven't already. We don't really have problems, so I'm not sure. We always use the fly sheets, and if it's bad, masks. They seem to work really well. Sorry, i'm not too helpful I guess!
Every few days, I use the Bronco fly spray. For flies and mosquitos, I use a spot on ';Equi-spot'; treatment (kind of like Advantage, but for horses). You really need to keep up with his grooming and that will give the flies less to feed on as well. The stables where you board him should have some sort of misting system in place to keep the pest level down as well. Be sure that they keep fresh water available, but that there is no long-standing water where mosquitos can breed.

Hope this helps! :)
there is a minerel/salt lick that controls flys and such. ask your local feed store! also a florescent bug zapper light may help!!
