I haven't flown a remote control helo yet... but have just under 5000 hours in the SH-60B Seahawk, and I have to agree with 95% of the prior respondents:

LOTS and LOTS of practice.

First practice lifting into a hover and merely keeping the nose pointed in the same direction (maintain heading) and the same altitude.

Once you perfect THAT... work on hovering over the SAME spot with constant altitude and heading.

THEN learn to turn in a hover... then to move forward and back and side to side... then back into that hover.

very carefully

have a few bottles of the brown stuff first.......aaahhhh,that cool bud ,slips down the throat a real treat, after half a dozen, you can do anythin!
lol, my hubby got one of those for Xmas too. we haven't tried it yet coz of the weather. we have a disused air field near us where everyone goes with their model planes and stuff, if we get stuck we'll go up there. reading the instructions it looks pretty straight forward though. just don't try it indoors lol.
